The Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind is perhaps my favorite high fantasy series. Richard Cypher, a woodsman, finds his world torn apart when he helps a woman fleeing from a quad of attackers. That woman is Kahlil Gabran, and she is a Confessor, able to turn a man into a slave with a touch of her hand. Richard helps her escape, and, consequently, learns that he is the Seeker, the only one who can wield the Sword of Truth. In his quest to rid the world of Darken Rahl, the man responsible for the quad who attacked Kahlan, Richard has to fight many hard battles and learn who he is. On the way, he falls in love with Kahlan, which poses its own unique set of problems.
That’s just a small portion of the first book, “Wizard’s First Rule.” I don’t want to spoil it for anyone, but I will say that it is one of the most fast-paced high fantasy series I’ve ever read, and it will always be one of my all-time favorites.
